HOT HAM AND CHEESE SLIDERS WITH POPPY SEED GLAZ
In the South, these aren’t just sandwiches—they are the official fuel of game days, baby showers, and holiday leftovers
Using sweet Hawaiian rolls as the base, we layer them with savory ham and melty Swiss, then drench them in a buttery, tangy glaze that bakes into a delicious crust.
Be warned: if you bring these to a party, they will be the first thing to disappear!
INGREDIENTS
The Sandwiches:
1 pack (12 count) King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
1 lb Deli Ham, thinly sliced (Honey ham or Black Forest works great!)
1/2 lb Swiss Cheese, thinly sliced
Optional: A few slices of pickled jalapeños for a “Southern kick”
The Buttery Glaze:
1/2 cup (1 stick) Butter, melted
1 tbsp Yellow Mustard or Dijon
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp Poppy seeds
1 tsp Onion powder
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
INSTRUCTIONS
The Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Without pulling the rolls apart, slice the entire slab of rolls in half horizontally so you have one giant “top” and one giant “bottom.”
The Layering: Place the bottom half in a greased 9×13 baking dish. Layer on half the cheese, then all of the ham, and top with the remaining cheese. (The cheese on both sides acts like “glue” to keep the sliders together!) The Crown: Place the top half of the rolls back on.
The Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, mustard, Worcestershire, poppy seeds, and spices. The Pour: Pour the glaze evenly over the rolls. Use a brush to make sure the sides are coated too.
The Soak (The Secret Step): If you have time, let the rolls sit for 10–15 minutes before baking. This lets the butter soak into the bread for that “melt-in-your-mouth” texture.
The Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 8–10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the tops are golden brown and slightly toasted.
PRO TIPS:
The “Slider” Hack: Use a serrated bread knife to slice the rolls. It keeps the soft bread from squishing!
Variations: Try these with turkey and provolone, or even leftover roast beef and cheddar!
Make-Ahead: You can assemble these the night before, keep them covered in the fridge, and just pop them in the oven when guests arrive
